Forum Marketing

Participating in online forums can have multiple benefits. Increase in sales is an obvious one, but forums can also give you the ability to get some perspectives from others in your industry. It also allows you to "keep tabs" on your competition. Forum marketing is an exceptional way to make your business stand out from all the rest. It can even help to increase ROI, as people found on forums are usually internet savvy and not opposed to conducting business online. It's also a great way to obtain recommendations.

When used correctly, forum marketing can have a tremendous impact on your business. Here are some tips to make sure you implement the best forum marketing plan:

1. Choose the right forum for promoting your business.

Look for forums that specifically cover your niche. Do some research to find them, or ask around. Also, look for forums that have a substantial amount of users. You do not want to waste your time on forums that have less than 1,000 members, and less than 10,000 posts. Forums to avoid: ones overrun with spam and forums hosted by your competitors. Once you decide which forums you wish to participate it, create your account immediately because seniority is practiced in these communities. Make sure to throughly read the rules and regulations before you commit though, because some are trickier than you think!

2. Pick an appropriate user name.

Since your user name is generally the first thing people notice (along with your avatar or photo) it is important to pick a name that is easy to pronounce and remember. Pick one that is closely related with your brand and steer clear of too many numbers and nicknames that only have significance to you. Awkward misspellings are also something to avoid when choosing a user name.

3. Resist the urge to promote your business right away.

Spend some time getting to know the forum community, and make beneficial contributions to the forum. Once you establish creditability and exploit your expertise, people will begin to contact you directly, and that is when it is time to promote your business! Trying to push it before then may make you seem biased.

4. Create mutually beneficial marketing campaigns.

This can include offering forum members incentives or discounts for your product. Just make sure it isn't against the rules first.

5. Beware of spam!

Although it may generate a bit of short term traffic to your site, it is tacky and could ruin your reputation as a reputable marketer. So, do not use this method when marketing in forums.
