Cut Budgets, Not Marketing

As a small business owner, the words "cheap" and "free" are typically well received, especially if it's in the marketing or advertising field. The good news is, with certain marketing strategies, it is possible to incorporate cheap or free ideas. In this economy, it is important that you ensure your business gets noticed so cutting marketing exposure is out of the question, but that doesn't mean you can't cut your budget. Although there are many pricey ways to stay in the spotlight, there are also many less expensive or even cost free ways to market your business. Here are 5 cost effective ways to maintain your marketing:
1. Participate in Social Networking

Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin to name a few. There is so much buzz about these sites and yes they are effective! You do not necessarily have to join all of them, but join a couple and keep up with it, because the more present and relevant your sites are, the more likely it is to come up in a search. Even if it does not bring in new business, it is a chance to connect with and offer incentives to current customers and increase customer satisfaction.

2. Blog

Research and write about a topic and post it on your website, or any of your social media sites. SEO can significantly increase with keywords in your blog and it will draw people to your company's website. It is also important that you update it frequently. Nothing looks worse than a blog site with one entry in the past three months. Customers can interpret this as you not following through, not caring about your business, or even closing your doors altogether!

3. Reward Existing Customers

Offer incentives exclusive to your existing customers to keep them coming back. Send them a special email or give them a promotional code they can use to get a discount on their next purchase.

4. Referral Incentives

Word of mouth is a powerful thing. It also doesn't hurt to offer discounts to those who refer your products or services to their friends and family. Sure you may take a slight hit upfront, but by attaining a new client, the discount will pay for itself in no time!

5. Credible Website

If you don't have a website, welcome yourself to the 21st century and get one immediately - don't even finish this article first. If you have a website, update it. Gone are the days of stale websites attracting customers. Web-savvy customers want to see specials, promos, and seasonal new products on your website. Adding links to your website for social networking, blogs, or newsletters is highly recommended, as it allows you an opportunity to stay in front of your clients without them searching your site.
