Benefits of SEO and SEM

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM), are great techniques for marketing your company's products or services online. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the more technical side of online marketing, as it requires you to be familiar with basic HTML coding. Because it often deals with the text of the website, SEO is also referred to as SEO copywriting.

To truly understand how SEO and SEM work and how they can benefit your business, you should first have a good grasp of how search engines operate. There is no human interface with the text-driven search engines. They are not able to appreciate the graphics or sounds built into your website, even with the vast technology available.

Search engines "crawl" the web looking at website text content to determine what the site is about. Once the crawling is complete, the search engine indexes the website content and stores it in a database for later retrieval. The database is full of words and phrases that describe the webpage, and keywords are assigned to each page for ease of indexing.

The goal of building and launching a website is to bring traffic that is interested in (and hopefully searching for) what your company has to offer. Content that optimizes your website increases the relevance of it based on certain keywords and searches, providing a higher ranking in the search engines.

Here are a few simple benefits of having a highly optimized website:

High Return on Investment
Even after the costs of hiring a professional to optimize your site, the results yield among the highest returns of any form of marketing.

Traffic of choice
SEO will increase the amount of targeted traffic to your site, in other words, consumers already looking for what you have to offer.

Increased Brand Recognition
Increased targeted traffic brings increased brand recognition.

Longer at the top
Once your site has been properly optimized, it's more likely to remain higher in the rankings.

Search Engine Marketing, or SEM, is a term used to describe multiple techniques to make websites more visible to search engines. These techniques include SEO and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising, or a combination of both.

As with SEO, there are benefits to incorporating an overall SEM strategy:

Everyone “Googles”
A number of polls and surveys conducted show that search engines are the most popular choice when it comes to finding websites. A successful SEM plan helps to ensure your site is among those being searched.

Targeted traffic with open wallets
Customers and prospects that use search engines are looking for something and when they find they’re going to be ready to buy – it may as well be from your company.

Better than Banners
Statistics show that online buyers are five to six times more likely to buy from a site they have been directed to through search engines than by clicking on an advertising banner.

Having a website is no longer enough – it must be easily found by your target audience.
Consumers are becoming more and more educated, and are searching for credible companies who can be found online. Use SEO and SEM to give your business the edge it needs to gain traffic and increase exposure.
